WSJ 힐센래스 "Fed, 美 경제전망 우려…내년 금리인상 가능성"

(서울=연합인포맥스) 김지연 기자 = 연방준비제도(Fed) 위원들이 미국 경제 전망을 우려하고 있으며 Fed의 금리 인상이 내년으로 미뤄질 가능성이 있다고 월스트리트저널(WSJ)의 존 힐센래스 연방준비제도(Fed) 전문기자가 진단했다.
힐센래스는 21일(미국시간) 기사에서 윌리엄 더들리 뉴욕 연방준비은행 총재의 전일 연설을 인용, Fed 내에서 달러화 강세와 유가 하락이 미국 경제에 부정적 영향을 끼칠 것이란 우려가 커지고 있다고 설명했다.
더들리 총재는 전일 뉴욕에서 열린 한 행사에 참석해 "2014년 중순 이후 달러화 가치가 15%가량 오르면서 수입은 경쟁력이 있어졌지만, 수출을 더 어렵게 만들었다 "며 뉴욕 연은이 계산한 결과 이는 올해 실질 국내총생산(GDP)을 0.6%포인트 떨어트릴 것이라고 말했다.
그는 유가 하락에 대해서도 "가계 소비를 늘리는 데 도움이 되지만, 기업 투자에는 반대의 효과를 낸다"며 저유가로 원유 탐사와 채굴활동이 급격히 줄어 미국 경제활동 전반에 하방 압력으로 작용할 것으로 예상했다.
힐센래스는 "더들리 총재가 다행히도 경제지표가 좋게 나와 Fed가 올해 금리를 올리더라도 이것이 Fed가 긴축적 통화정책을 펼 것이라는 뜻은 아니다"고 말했다며 더들리 총재가 올해 금리 인상론을 희망사항으로 치부했다고 진단했다.
3월 기준으로 Fed 위원 17명 중 15명이 올해 금리를 올릴 것으로 예상했었다.
힐센래스는 투자자들과 Fed 위원들 사이에서 Fed가 올해 9월 혹은 내년에 금리를 올릴 것이란 전망이 지지를 받고 있다며 앞으로 몇 달간 미국 경제지표가 나쁘게 나오면 이들의 금리 인상 전망 역시 계속 뒤로 미뤄지게 될 것이라고 덧붙였다.
